Gallena University invites members of the public to its Self Defense for Women workshop, designed to increase knowledge, self-confidence, common sense, protection strategies for preventing attack, and effective escape techniques to use in case of assault.
The workshop is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014, in the Rec Center.
Self-defense expert Rachelle “Big Guns” Avery will conduct the session. Ms. Avery holds an eighth-degree black belt in Karate and is known nationally for her self-defense programs.
Women are encouraged to attend. Mothers and daughters are welcome, as well as young women preparing for or attending college or considering study abroad.
The workshop is $30 and pre-registration is required. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a lunch and water.
